When I looked into my Gmail today I got the option "switch to the new look" link in the bottom right corner of Gmail to see the new gmail .I was like, did Google come up with something new in gmail this time.I clicked the button and there my gmail is changed and looks cool to me. Some of its new features and design changes include a streamlined conversation view (complete with profile pictures), three different density settings (plus "elastic density" based on your display), a new batch of high resolution themes, improved search, and a refined navigation panel.
